Garden Bird Baths
Garden bird baths can make a garden look good especially
to birds that are flying overhead. If a bird feeder is in the area,
the water in the bird bath will attract them to land and survey the
area, allowing them to find the source of food quicker than they normally
would. Keeping them clean and full of fresh water will encourage more
birds to come as well.
Not only do garden bird baths attract birds, they often complement
an already beautiful landscape. They come in many different styles,
some mimicking ancient Greek bird baths or architecture while some are
of a more contemporary design. Some actually have a filter and pump
so are more similar to swimming pool than a bathtub. Some have built
in heaters for cold winter months when birds need food and water the
most.
Garden bird baths should be big enough for many birds to drink and
bathe at the same time. It should only be a couple of inches deep at
the most and have areas, such as rocks in the bath that are barely submerged
in some areas and poking out like islands in the other areas. This allows
for a variety of birds in different sizes. Keeping it raised of the
ground will also encourage more birds, because there is less of a risk
from predators.
